Keep the goons out of politics.

I am stating the obvious when I say that everyone is disgusted with the politicians esp in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks. But apart from using must be, should be, and other similar modals, what else are we doing?
Unless the wrong type of people are prevented from joining politics, there is no hope. And the only way, in my opinion, is to take away the perks and privileges that politicians are enjoying in a disproportionate measure . Because it is these, that make politics a lucrative profession for the wrong type of people.
When this is achieved, may be the right kind of people will not shy away from joining politics for the fear of being branded as one of them.

Save the girl child campaign

I t was announced a couple of years back by the CBSE that the parents of an only girl child would not have to pay any tuition fees in a school affiliated to the CBSE. In other words, the education of the only girl child at a CBSE school would be free! This step was indeed commendable, as not only it would have rewarded the parents of the only girl child, but also encouraged other parents to think likewise..!
But unfortunately, CBSE had to withdraw this announcement as a result of strong protest from a few schools, ironically from Rajasthan, the land of Child Marriages, Dowry Deaths, Female Infanticide and Sati..!
And wonder of wonders, there wasn't any hint of indignation against this retraction of the decsion by CBSE from any of the so called champions of the cause of the girl child, or the protagonists of Women Empowerment...!
